There are a lot of societies where racism has taken place and is still doing today. I have chosen racism against African Americans. This was in 1619 when Africans were taken in as slaves and got treated like property. It was European traders who brought the first African slaves to the new colonies. Not all Blacks in America were slaves. “Free Blacks” lived and worked in big American cities but they had very few rights. About 40 million African Americans, 13% of the total population, live in the USA today. People referred them to bad terms and decimated them in an awful way. In the last 30 years the term African Americans has officially been used. Slave work was very hard; women usually cooked, cleaned the house and raised the children of the white “masters”. They use the word masters to show they were in charge of everything and they have to do whatever they say. As time passed more and more Americans in the Northern States thought that slavery shouldn't be allowed in a free country so they all joined together and started to fight and end slavery. These people helped the slaves to escape to the north through secret routes, this was called the underground Railway. Abraham Lincoln became USA’s president in 1860 and was strongly against slavery. The civil war lasted until 1865 and by then Abraham freed all the American slaves and the northern states won the civil war. I think this is a good example of racism between two different races and how they dealt with it in the end.
